The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (John 1:5 ESV)
It is absolutely possible to live in the worst part of town with the most irreligious people, who has no regard for religion. To be surrounded by contentious, cantankerous people and not lose your spiritual vibrancy. It is possible to be incarcerated doing hard time, living in an environment of fear and violence and not lose your faith in God. Finally, it is possible to grow up in abject poverty, with barely any food on your table or roof over your head and still love God. The light within us will always over come the darkness around. That is the whole premise of Christianity. Good will always overcome evil. Equally important is the fact that where we live and who we live with is never an excuse for loosing our faith. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing”. (2 Timothy 4:7-8 ESV) “Bloom where you are planted”. Don’t let the darkness overwhelm you or overpower you. Nothing or no one should dim your light, don’t give that power to anyone. Let no one put your light under a bushel, that is not there’s to do. God requires that all of us should shine. “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven”. (Matthew 5:16 ESV) Release the light in you, let it radiate within the darkness.
